What is the SEL Assessment?

The Social-Emotional Learning Assessment is a research-informed tool that measures student growth across five core competencies defined by the CASEL framework. It provides teachers with actionable data to understand where each student is thriving and where they may need additional support.

The assessment is designed to be administered three times per year -- at the start (baseline), middle (progress), and end (impact) -- creating a longitudinal picture of each student's emotional development.

25 age-appropriate statements per assessment
10-15 minutes to complete per student
Two tracks: self-report (8-11) and teacher-observed (6-7)
Automatic flagging of students needing support

Student Self-Report
Ages 8-11 (3rd - 6th Class)

Students respond to 25 statements using a visual face scale. Designed to be completed independently on a tablet in 10-15 minutes.

  • Visual face-based responses (no reading difficulty)
  • One question at a time for focus
  • Progress bar keeps students motivated
Teacher Observation
Ages 6-7 (Junior & Senior Infants)

Teachers rate 25 observation statements per student based on classroom behaviour. Completed by the teacher, not the child.

  • Teacher-friendly language and phrasing
  • Frequency-based scale (Rarely to Consistently)
  • Can be completed over multiple sessions

Aligned to National Curricula

Assessment competencies map directly to the Irish SPHE curriculum, UK PSHE framework, Australian Personal and Social Capability, and CASEL standards. Reports can be used for school self-evaluation and inspector reviews.
